The day started around 9:30am, to accommodate the kids coming down from Queensland which is currently one hour behind NSW time wise. It was a great time of day for all us parents who usually need to gear up and get out earlier on a Sunday morning for golf competitions!

It was a beautiful morning – clear blue skies! An anomaly for what we have endured here in the Northern Rivers over the past few weeks.

The course was in amazing condition, bearing in mind a lot of the course was deep under flooding muddy water only two weeks prior to the event! The fairways and greens were really in wonderful condition, and the cart paths had all been cleared and cleaned. It was a wonderful day and really great to finally start the yearly NRDGA events.

The Women’s Northern Rivers Championship event had 7 keen participants – Hollie Fuller (Winner Gross), Stella Payne (Winner nett), Franceska Payne, Brielle Wenham, Talise Wenham, Tana Lowe, and the younger Wenham sister who played the 9 hole competition. During the prize giving Jen Cicchnelli, President WGNR, had the opportunity to welcome the girls and talk about growing the sport by enticing their friends to join them. It was a wonderful opportunity to chat to the parents as a representative, and the parents all expressed that they were so glad she is in this position.

The girls had a wonderful day together – spending time together doing something they all love doing. Women’s golf Northern Rivers’ prizes were gratefully received by the recipients, as per the pictures. WGNR can really give themselves a big pat on their backs – go team!
